question about leds...how sensitive/fragile/delicate are they??

i installed a bunch of perimeter leds (green) that i ordered w the board and then thought it might look better w blues...so i desolder the greens and put in the blues (also deck "oem" leds) and decide that the greens are better but when i put them back in they wouldnt light...i double checked the polarity and everything was in right...luckily i still had a few extra greens and was able to put those in so everything is working...but now i have no "extra" greens lol

i also used a voltmeter to check for shorts and the leds didnt short...they just dont light anymore...so im curious as to how fragile they are? is there any way to repair them?

To my knowledge there is no way to 'repair' a broken/dead LED. I am surprised that they didn't work for you when you put them back in if the polarity was correct...the only thing I can think of is that maybe when you desoldered them too much heat was transfered and it may have killed it, or possibly if you dropped any of them that could do it (but it isn't likely). Defining how fragile they are can only be expressed relatively - you can shake them around and they do handle shock and vibration quite well, but I wouldn't go running them over with a car, stomping on them, or putting them in an oven.

well the soldering/desoldering w too much heat might be it...but i didnt drop any...guess i ll just have to be more careful in the future when installing/changing...is it possible to order additional leds w/o ordering keycaps?...unless u decide to release a new set of caps...fantasy themed ones for instance *wink, wink* lol

Sorry but we don't sell LEDs without the keycaps...only reason is we don't want to get into the LED reselling business. There are many other sources out there to obtain LEDs with the same or close specifications and they probably offer them for less than we would sell them. I would use the specifications found here as a guide for purchasing LEDs from outside sources.
