Okay, its simple.

Do I understand I need to only interchange Toxic with Ice keycaps, OR Fire with Gold? I already have a 82-Toxic, (and I gave a 82-Fire to my tech partner Richard who thinks its is the greatest thing in keyboard history!! - he's a late night programmer - see http://www.starfield-screen-saver.com ).

DUMB QUESTION ::: Are the keycaps the same for both, so that I can change out the numbers or the Function keys between them? Or do I have to get another 82 deck to do that?

I guess I am confused.

To address your issue, I think you are somewhat confused. I may be missing the issue but here's a shot at clearing it up:



ALL of the keycaps used on the Deck Keyboards are interchangeable as long as they are the same size. The keycaps aren't the part that are colored - they are all black and white. If you are swapping them from an 82-key Deck to a 105-key Deck, the fonts may differ very slightly in size but that is the only difference (as long as the keycap itself is the same size - you wouldn't switch a CTRL key with the RETURN key because of the size difference).

You CAN switch the LEDs under the keycaps as well to make some keys blue instead of green or vice versa. An example of this can be seen on the main page of our website. At this time, it can only be done with the blue and green boards due to the electrical differences behind it (more information about that can be seen here).

Okay I get it - I never took a key off before. Now that I just HAVE, Duh!!

So this requires some unsoldering LEDs and soldering in different colored one, and maybe changing resistor values. More work than I thought. Oh well, still can be done, using two keyboards as LED sources to trade, so I just got to spend more time and energy. In fact better yet, just go ahead and buy similarly rated LED's as you already include so I am not limited to to mere swaps.

You are correct. Also, you shouldn't have to change resistor values if you are switching between a green board and a blue board -- they are close enough that you can interchange them straight up. Now the red and gold boards on the other hand would require a bit more work...either way, if you go ahead with this, please post up pics or let us know what you did, we always love to know what our Deck owners are doing!
