Hi there,

I have been looking at getting a Legend however one of my sticking points is debris getting in under the keyes and on to the board and causing all sorts of problems.

I am currently using a Saitek Eclipse for a few years now. Not dissastified with it for what it is and havent had any problems with it except the usual gaming movement keys wearing on it.

Has anyone every used one of these membrane covers?

Thanx

Interesting...have never seen that page before. Added to our FAQs. :)

Also may be of interest to note that the following part will work with the Deck 82:

Waaaaaa! Am I reading this right? A Deck Legend protective skin!!!

For the price, I think I will order one just to try.
My over friendly cat love to sleep on top of my 22" CRT. Once in a while he wakes up and randomly puke nice fur balls here and there. I already got couple of close calls near my Deck.

Nice finding man...

10min later... I couldn't resist... I ordered one for my Legend 105 and one for my IBM M 101.
I will report back how they sit on the Deck 105.

Just last weekend I noticed that my Legend was getting rather crumb-y, so I just unplugged it, took all the keycaps out and vacuumed/dusted it out (no sprays, just a loose brush and vacuum cleaner) and put it together good as new...

I LOVE THIS KEYBOARD!!

Got little tired of waiting for my order to come in so I called customer service.

What a nice surprise I got when the lady told me they are still waiting for the Deck Legend keyboard to come in so they can make the mold and produce the protective skin.

Couple minutes later I got an email:
-----------------------------------
You received a full or partial refund of $15.95 USD from CompuCover Inc..
-----------------------------------
Dang it!

In other words: These guys didn’t have any mold for the Legend. But they are taking orders anyway  Once they get the f*ing keyboard delivered, they will be able to produce and ship the protective skin.

:x I thought I was buying a product in stock... Now I’m p!ssed. :x

As of Feb 24th 2009, they still don’t have a board to make the mold.
Can you tell if these morons ordered a Legend recently?
Because they will not be able produce protective skins for it until they have a Legend in hands.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Not sure who or where they ordered a Deck from as I am not showing any orders for CompuCover...I will start a follow-up on this tomorrow. I am extremely shocked that they are selling these without being able to produce any units as of yet.

Thanks for the empathy and looking forward to see what you will find out.

They didn't refund me for the other skin I ordered. Customer Service said they have the M skin in stock and will ship it tomorrow. They were just holding the orders to ship both at the same time... Whatever

That is discouraging news and bad marketing to boot on their end.

Well at least you can give us a report on the 82 skin performance when you get it.

The other is not for a Deck. It is for a IBM - M...
I will post a report once I get it, if I ever get it.

I finally got the protective skin for the IBM M.
I have two words for it: Rip Off!

It doesn’t sit well at all. The keys are at the right place but the edges of the skin are too small for the keyboard cover. I tried to stretch the skin but then it no longer fits on the keys. What a piece of sh[beep].

DeckGuy Adam, good luck to get one for a Deck and see by yourself how it fit. Then decide if you want these guys in your FAQ or not.

15$ skin, 15$ S&H and 100% garbage. Here's a 30$ lesson for you.

Sorry to hear that bro. I have been known to spill adult beverages on my keyboard from time to time and was hoping this would be a preventative solution to ruining a keyboard.

It certainly mitigates the spillage risk but at what cost?

The M keyboard has high tall keys which may not be a suitable format for this type of protective skin. The Deck Legend is much flatter and probably more protective skin friendly.

I don’t think it is fair to map the deception I had for the M and assume their skin will not sit well on the Deck. That’s why I suggested our Deck friend to get one and see for himself. It doesn’t change the fact that this company sold me a product they didn’t have (and refunded me as well). But that is another story.

Now let’s pretend for a second the skin fits well on the board.
The skin material is adhesive like rubber. So you can’t really slide your fingers from keys to keys. I didn’t like this sticky feeling at all but it should be ok for someone using only a couple fingers to type.

I’m going to share a big secret with you. Putting your beverages on the floor instead of beside your keyboard is very good to prevent spillage on the keyboard.

The other factor to consider is will the skin affect the illumination in some way like making the keys look blurry. Good point on not being able to slide from key to key didn't think of that.

Beverages on the floor would end up in the floor for sure and that rains on Mrs Curly1's parade :o)
