Hello,
I received a Deck Legend Fire as a Christmas gift, and must say that I'm loving it. It's definitely one of the best keyboards I've ever used. The solid design, mechanical keyswitches, backlighting, N-key rollover (PS/2) and form factor are all top notch. The one down side of this keyboard, given my personal preference, is the lack of tactile and auditory key-press feedback... But then again, I learned to type on an IBM Model M in the early 90s. :)
So, I've decided to modify my keyboard by replacing the linear Cherry switches with tactile click Cherry MX Blue switches (MX1A-E1NW). I was able to buy these from Digi-Key without problem. The higher force switch for the spacebar, however, is proving much more of a challenge to locate.

I'm looking for 1-3 Cherry MX Greens (differential tactile click, high force, PCB mount with fixation pins, # MX1A-F1NW)

I've scoured every distributor/reseller I can think of that will sell parts in small quantities - Digi-Key, Mouser, Nep Electronics, Wes-Garde, Allied Electronics, Newark, etc. I've even checked Radio Shack and Fry's... No luck.
When I do an internet search of the part number, it turns up a handful of bulk distributors with a listing for MX1A-F1NW, but the minimum quantity/purchase amount would cost more than the keyboard and blue switches combined!

I'm running out of ideas... Does anyone have any leads or know where I can buy a few Cherry MX Green switches (part number: MX1A-F1NW)?

Thanks in advance.

Did you try Kwik Chips? Specifically the link below.

Yep, they're one of the bulk distributors I came across. Unfortunately, their minimum purchase amount is $300 USD.

Thanks for the link, though.

Personally I would go with one of the normal force switches, it shouldn't affect feel much at all. Usually we put the high force under the spacebar for a couple of reasons - yes because it is used alot, and also to make sure that it returns to the "up" position even with the spacebar wire attached. It should still return to the "up" position with the standard force switch without a problem, we just prefer the high force.

Can I read this as you use different switches in the space bar in the Deck Legend? The only issue I had with my Legend was that I kept dropping spaces when I typed. No other key gave me problems. Would changing out the space bar switch to one with less resistance help and is that even a possibility? Or is there some other solution you can suggest?

Cheers!

Yes we currently use a higher force switch for the spacebar in the Deck Legend (currently MX1A-21NW). I am not sure if this would remedy the problem you are experiencing but you could give it a shot. It really doesn't make a lot of difference, just something that we like.

Same here. It's certainly not necessary, but it would be nice to get the typing feel exactly as I like it... what with taking the time to solder all those switches & LEDs.

I'll probably end up doing just that. Well, use either a normal click switch or let the high force linear switch on the board. Just need to decide which I prefer.

Also, I want to thank you for taking the time to reply. It's great to see you folks at Deck being so actively involved in the community & customer support!

I would like to chime in here, if the OP doesnt mind. I too would very much like to have a deck legend (blue) with cherry blue switches. I have heard rumors that you might have one out by this summer. As I am currently searching for a backlit cherry blue keyboard for immediate purchase, more information would be extemely welcome.

I don't know anything about a blue switch model, but there may be others soon...check back in about a month, hopefully we will have something by then.
